The Saxony is a large, heavyweight German breed with a unique plumage color. They are a multipurpose duck and make a great addition to any small farmstead producing more than an adequate supply of meat and eggs.
Our foundation stock came from Holderread Waterfowl Farm and Preservation Center in Oregon and are show quality stock.
We started out with the lovely Saxony ducks in 2011 and they are still our favorite breed to have on the farm. We often find the Saxonys off together away from the rest of the flock usually napping in the warm sunshine or underneath the shade of a tree arising only to take an occasional stroll to the watering hole. They are beautiful waterfowl, quiet and easy going.
We have, however, recently added the Welsh Harlequin to our existing Saxony flock. A beautiful breed of waterfowl with very prolific egg laying capabilities. A very welcoming addition to our small flock.
Our primary reason for increasing our flock and expanding to accommodate another breed is so we can increase our production of farm fresh duck eggs for ourselves, family and friends. We will on occasion hatch out ducklings to replace our stock and will advertise on this page if and when we have any available for purchase as well as young mature ducks and drakes. The Saxony females, however, will most definitely live out their remaining post production years happily here at Primrose Dale.
Our next project is to build a farm pond!
